Box Office Preview: “Safe House,” “Star Wars 3D” among four new releases

Hollywood’s had an incredibly successful run so far in 2012 and they are about to put that luck to the test as the film industry will attempt to make history by opening four $20+ million films in one weekend. Surprisingly with two 3D features and a tentpole action flick entering the fray, the early favorite to win the weekend is actually a romantic drama. Granted with Valentine’s Day around the corner, the expected success of “The Vow” isn’t really a shock, but given the field it’s up against, certain studios will probably be taking a second look at their 2013 rosters and making sure this type of film is part of them. In “The Vow,” Channing Tatum stars a man who following a traumatic car accident must make his wife fall in love with him all over again, after she loses all memories of the pair as a couple. Like “Dear John,” last year, Channing Tatum looks to have another Valentine’s Day tearjerker success on his ever expanding filmography. Based on actual events, the movie should play extremely well given its timing and its very likable cast, which includes “The Notebook’s” Rachel McAdams.
