Viral: ‘Flying’ humans, part of stunt to promote Chronicle movie, wow New Yorkers

New York City residents have seen it all, so surprising them with a stunt is not easy. Kudos, then, to the marketing whizzes behind the movie Chronicle. A promotional clip showed New Yorkers’ jaws dropping as they stared up at what looked like flying people over the Statue of Liberty and other landmarks. In the video, three men launch remote-controlled planes shaped and painted like human beings into the air. They soar across the skyline, to the amazement of people below, who try to take pictures with cellphones. With the help of an electronic soundtrack, the video seems to transform the city into a futuristic metropolis populated by super-beings. Uploaded on Monday, it had been viewed more than 5 million times by Thursday. It may have all been calculated to grab attention for Chronicle, a new film about teens who find themselves with telekinetic powers.
