Weekend (2/3) Movie Trailers and Reviews: 'Chronicle' Is Better Than You Think

Could it be? Are we actually looking at a post-awards season weekend in which all three movies are getting positive reviews? Believe it, folks: as of today, the three big new releases of the weekend are all good ones, worth your dollar if you're a fan of their genres. Here they are: "Chronicle" Rated PG-13, 83 mins. Take a little bit of "Batman Begins," sprinkle in some "Hancock" and "Kick-Ass," and top it with "Cloverfield," and you have the weekend's best-reviewed movie, "Chronicle." This is yet another found-footage movie, like "Cloverfield" or "Paranormal Activity," but instead of the horror genre, this is a superhero movie. The story follows three teenagers who begin to develop superpowers: flight, super strength, telekinesis, the works. As they grow stronger, it becomes clear that one of them is not content to play by the rules, and the remaining two must confront their now-evil friend. Rotten Tomatoes has "Chronicle" at a surprising 85% among critics with equally positive reactions from audiences. Though this movie relies on the same found-footage style that will grow tiresome by year's end, it's a fresh and engaging story that is well written and acted.
