March is coming in like a lion - or an equally clever CGI cat - at the Aiken County Public Library.
The month's slate of events opens at 3 p.m. Friday with a free screening of 2012's "Shrek" spinoff "Puss In Boots," featuring the vocal stylings of Antonio Banderas as the swashbuckling feline. The movie is rated PG.
The supernatural romance series featuring a self-described "sick, masochistic lion" and "stupid lamb" continues with a 3 p.m. Saturday screening of "Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part I," in which the lion and lamb (vampire Edward Cullen and mortal Bella Swan) marry but don't live happily ever after - or possibly live on at all, if their enemies have anything to say. The movie is rated PG-13.
Social Security Public Affairs Specialist Tony Williams will give a free educational seminar at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 15, at the library on "Social Security: Understanding the Benefits." The seminar is open to the public.
The library's "Let's Talk About It" book discussion series continues at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, with a discussion of Katherine Anne Porter's "Noon Wine" led by USC Aiken professor Ilona Law. Copies of "Noon Wine" are available at the library's second floor reference desk.
Movie fans can take a trip back to the summer of 1979 with a free screening of Steven Spielberg's "Super 8" at 3 p.m. Friday, March 23. The movie is rated PG-13.
Martin Scorsese's Oscar-nominated 3-D epic "Hugo," based on the hit novel "The Invention of Hugo Cabret," will be screened at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at the library. "Hugo" is rated PG.
The month's slate of events concludes with a look at the Easter Bunny's son's rock 'n' roll dreams with a free screening of "Hop" at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 31.
The Aiken County Public Library is located at 314 Chesterfield St. S.W. For more information about upcoming events, call the library at 642-2020 or visit www.abbe-lib.org.
